One Business Website Can Appear in Several URL Forms

A company may be reachable through HTTP and HTTPS, with or without "www," and through older redirected addresses. For visitors, these may all lead to the same place. For maintenance, however, one preferred format is easier to manage.

Use the Final HTTPS Destination

When creating or updating directory listings, enter the version that loads directly without avoidable redirects. If the site's preferred address uses HTTPS, there is little value in publishing an older HTTP version that immediately redirects.

Multi-location links should follow the same principle and point directly to the final branch URL.

Pick one preferred URL format and keep it stable

HTTPS, hostname choice, trailing slash conventions, and redirect behaviour should be decided at the website level first. Directory links can then point directly to the preferred version. If every profile uses a different variant, analytics and maintenance become noisier even when redirects work. A citation should send the visitor to the final destination without avoidable redirect chains.

Review Old Variations During Audits

A mixture of URL formats can reveal historical listings created before a website migration or HTTPS upgrade. Updating those profiles keeps the citation record aligned with the current site configuration.

The concern is practical rather than cosmetic. Clean destination URLs reduce redirect hops, make records easier to compare, and help staff recognise which web address is officially approved.
